The Tatum Music Scholarship Fund at East Texas Communities Foundation has awarded its initial scholarship to Daniel Prater. Daniel plans to major in Music Education at Stephen F. Austin State University with the goal of becoming a band director. He has been active in band at Overton High School where he stood out as drum major, principal clarinet chair, and band president. He also earned spots in the All-State, All-Region , and All-Area bands.
Tatum Music Company has served East Texas school band programs for over 70 years, meeting the needs of both student musicians and area music educators. Several former outstanding band directors have owned or worked for Tatum Music throughout its history. The current owner, Doice Grant, established this scholarship in 2019 to benefit future music educators. The scholarship is $500, renewable for 2 more years for a total award of $1500. Applicants are not required to own or use an instrument purchased, leased, or serviced by Tatum Music Company.
